“He examines queer identity and the flesh, takes ideas of the body, and pierces them through with millennial angst.” - Florence Welch

‘Of course the pit is a poem
But in another truer way
It’s a fucking pit’

In his debut collection of poems, Juliano Zaffino writes about the collapsing hellhole modern world around us, ‘sort of orgasmic, mostly tragic’, a world of Instagram envy and digital nazi hunters, escalating xenophobia and the instability of the individual.

Told in three parts, and stitching together free-standing poems with two sequences (‘Adventures In Heteroland’ and ‘This Light Up Mirror’), this is a collection that moves constantly from private to public, in which no one – not the poet, not Odysseus, not your Alexa speaker and definitely not Marge or Lisa Simpson – is safe.

All Those Bodies And They’re Moving, first published on 31 January 2020, is the landmark publication from The YourShelf Press, the independent publishing division of the online book community YourShelf. Juliano has been the Director and Chief Curator of YourShelf since its inception in 2016.

further praise for All Those Bodies And They’re Moving

recommended by Anya Taylor-Joy

‘Juliano Zaffino is a poet unafraid of vulnerability. The poems in this book are a liturgy of the body, of desire, and of the hazards and recompenses of love.’ - Seán Hewitt

‘I love Juliano’s work. To feel so comfortable in a world and yet for that world to be full of self-deprecation, struggle, tension and angst is rare and beautiful and ultimately very human. He is smart AF yet vulnerable and all with a knowing and humour that makes a reader like me feel very seen and shown – which for me is the distinction between good writing and writing I will return to over and over again.’ - Rebecca Lucy Taylor

‘Zaffino’s words sing in the blood and quiver in the sinews. The poems in this book vibrate in the veins, set both muscle and mind in motion, and leave the arteries alight.’ - RJ Arkhipov

‘Zaffino is a true friend to poets and poetry… an astute, sensitive reader with an ear for linguistic inventiveness and an appreciation for the work he himself so wonderfully undertakes. The poetry community is fortunate indeed to have him cheering it on.’ - Maya C. Popa

‘Zaffino’s poems dance between the abstract and the stark, the sprawling and the concise. This is a collection of beauty, with the grotesque always waiting to pounce. This counterpoint in his storytelling explores identity and desire like a delicate wrecking ball, capturing the truth of such issues as queerness, loneliness and anxiety. The outsider is fluent in both the language of dream and of nightmare. Zaffino has a powerful way of reminding us of this, and laying it down so we can accept it.’ - Sean Lìonadh

‘A delicious debut poetry collection, witty and dark.’ - Lisa Coen
